Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is a leading provider of on-site mobile maintenance and repair services for light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks and trailers. We operate 50+ nationwide service centers and provide 24/7 in-house call center support, scheduled maintenance, and unscheduled services.

Job Summary

To support growth of the company, Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is currently hiring a Reefer Trailer Technician II to join our team. This is a dedicated on-site position and we do not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Mobile Trailer Technician II will perform certified DOT inspections, Preventive Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body and framework.

Work is performed at the customer site. The Mobile Trailer Technician II may perform more advanced repairs under supervision and assists Sr Mobile Trailer Technicians with repairs and learning advanced mechanical skills. A successful Mobile Trailer Technician II complies with all company policies and maintains high performance metrics.

Duties
  • Preventive Maintenance and repairs on Thermo King, Carrier and other refrigeration equipment; DOT inspections on Freightliner and Mack Trucks; trailers; service trucks with minimal supervision.
  • Diagnose and repair/replace compressors, coils, electrical components, etc.
  • Follow safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Apply knowledge from formal training or on-the-job experience to perform duties; interpret technical information.
  • Work with clients to assess needs and provide information, assistance, and solutions.
  • Manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and allocate time.
  • Act with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical standards.
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (PM), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in a mobile/field environment.
  • Respond to call center dispatched service requests.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders using company devices and TRAIT application; upload photos as required.
  • Complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work with independence and manage daily schedule; maintain productivity within standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support teams to obtain approvals and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Complete all mandated safety training.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with customers and vendors; communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Maintain vehicle readiness with safety checks and daily pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailers and systems including brakes, air lines, pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Adhere to company policies, processes, and procedures; stay up to date on safety protocols.
  • Diagnose and repair trailer equipment and systems including welding, fabrication, and panel/body work as needed.
  • Identify problems, evaluate information, and propose effective solutions; inspect and diagnose malfunctions with appropriate tools.
  • Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years’ related experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Certified to use refrigerants R134, R404, R410 and other refrigerants as needed.
  • Own set of hand tools necessary to perform required duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all required company training.
