The Opportunity:
Join our dynamic Facilities Operations team as a Maintenance Technician II. This position provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of the campus to ensure a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for troubleshooting issues, providing service, and responding to maintenance requests from customers and staff. The ideal candidate has intermediate-level maintenance and repair skills across various building systems, including but not limited to chilled and hot water pumps, electrical systems, and plumbing systems.
The employee will also be required to assume on-call responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to support after-hours or emergency maintenance needs.
Responsibilities:
* Perform carpentry repairs to floors, doors, windows, and walls.
* Paint interior and exterior areas, equipment, and building components as required.
* Perform corrective repairs in response to reported issues to restore proper functionality.
* Maintain and repair plumbing systems, such as drinking fountains, faucets, toilets, drains, urinals, sinks, and garbage disposals.
* Maintain, repair, and replace electrical components, including lighting, outlets, switches, motors, pumps, and compressors.
* Perform planned and scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
* Conduct preventive maintenance repairs (PMR) by addressing defects found during inspections or PM activities.
* Work across multiple skilled trades at an intermediate level, including plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry.
* Repair or replace heating system components, valves, and soft water systems.
* Maintain and repair ventilation systems, including exhaust and supply air units; replace filters as needed.
* Support work conducted by central shops, contractors, other facilities zones, departments, or campus events.
* Perform routine, recurring maintenance tasks that do not have a fixed schedule.
* Complete all assigned work orders in a timely and accurate manner.
* Record work details in the system, including labor hours, action codes, shop stock, and trade notes. Document work performed, special conditions, or follow-up actions needed in trade notes. Report any maintenance, safety, health, or sanitation deficiencies to the supervisor promptly. Accurately update work order statuses to reflect progress and completion.
* Follow all university, local, state, and federal safety and regulatory guidelines.
* Assist with inventory control, equipment security, and supply tracking.
* Participate in required safety and training classes.
* Collaborate and coordinate with other campus departments to support maintenance and operational needs.
* Assist in other Facilities Operations zones during staff shortages or emergencies.
* Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisory leadership.
Minimum Qualifications:
Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades and 3 years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
Preferred Qualifications:
* Technical or vocational training in building maintenance, general trades, or a related field.
* 3+ years of experience performing maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, HVAC, and painting.
* Experience working in an educational, institutional, or large facilities environment.
* Proficiency in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
* Knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
