Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County Florida. The Water Division ensures a safe and reliable water supply for all of Orange County Utilities customers. The Water Division operates four regional water supply facilities and nine satellite water supply facilities that collectively produce over 60 million gallons per day.
The Water Division is seeking a highly qualified Industrial Electrician II. This position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting and repairing new and existing electrical systems at the 23 water facilities in OC Utilities.
Job Description General FunctionsThis key position performs skilled electrical repairs and preventive maintenance duties in an industrial plant environment, major building complex, or water and water reclamation field. Installs, troubleshoots and repairs new and existing controls and instrumentation to upgrade and update equipment including incoming electrical services. Tests motors, generators, lighting and power distribution systems. Troubleshoot and repairs variable frequency drives and other motor controls.
Supervises other technicians/electricians in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and/or building support systems while ensuring adherence to safety procedures/protocols. Work is performed with considerable independence under the supervision of a designated supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
- Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs: controls and heavy industrial electrical equipment including drives, generators, up to 12,500 volt power distribution equipment; large horsepower motors up to 1,000 HP; lift stations, water/reclaimed water plants and facilities working with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contractors; control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics.
- Supervises, trains and participates in the installation of low and medium voltage wiring, lights, switches and equipment required to maintain a safe working area or for the restoration of communications systems.
- Manages arc flash compliance programs and safety protocols in a live environment.
- Operates, maintains, updates and repairs sophisticated electrical power distribution controls.
- Performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications, which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.
- Oversees the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
- Ensures and promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Interprets Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) / PLC logic which involves reading and understanding logic and data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.
- Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, report time and resources expended to complete work orders.
- Prepares detailed scope of work requirements for work requiring utilization of outside contractors.
