THE JOB

Diesel Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing diesel engines and equipment. Diagnose mechanical issues, perform repairs, and ensure the safe and efficient operation of diesel-powered equipment.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
  • · Conduct thorough inspections and diagnostics of diesel engines, vehicles, and equipment to identify mechanical issues.
  • · Use diagnostic tools and equipment to troubleshoot and diagnose problems accurately.
  • · Analyze diagnostic reports and determine the necessary repairs or maintenance procedures.
  • · Perform repairs on diesel engines, including engine overhauls, component replacements, and system repairs.
  • · Conduct routine maintenance tasks, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid checks.
  • · Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and parts used.
  • · Troubleshoot and repair electrical and electronic systems in diesel-powered vehicles.
  • · Diagnose and repair issues related to wiring, sensors, control modules, and other electrical components.
  • · Follow a preventive maintenance schedule for diesel engines and equipment.
  • · Perform scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance and extend the lifespan of diesel-powered vehicles.
  • · Maintain accurate work orders of all repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities.
  • · Identifying recurring issues and recommending solutions.
  • · Communicate repair and maintenance needs to shop foreman or shop manager.
  • · Follow safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe working environment.
  • · Adhere to environmental regulations and disposal procedures for hazardous materials.
POSITION QUALIFICATION/MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a vocational or technical program in diesel technology or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 1 year of previous related experience required.
  • Relevant certifications, such as those from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or specific manufacturers, can be advantageous.
  • Dependability and flexibility.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under extreme weather conditions.
  • Ability to thrive in teamwork environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) repeatedly.
  • Physical stamina to work in various positions and environments for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for precise and intricate repair tasks.
  • Comfort working with various tools, equipment, and machinery.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and navigate vehicles and equipment.
  • Vision and hearing acuity to identify and diagnose mechanical issues accurately.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic tools and equipment used for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Familiarity with electrical and electronic systems in diesel-powered vehicles.
  • Understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in heavy equipment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and troubleshoot complex issues.
  • Ability to make accurate assessments and determine the most appropriate repair solutions.
  • Aptitude for finding innovative and efficient ways to resolve mechanical problems.
  • Attention to detail to ensure precise repairs and maintenance.
