Position Summary:

The security officer provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors and hospital personnel.

Responsibilities
  • Escorts for visitors, employees, and students upon request.
  • Patrol all areas of the hospital internally and externally on foot, bicycle, and/or vehicle 24 hours a day in all weather conditions. Only security officers who meet the driver’s license standards for operating an Orlando Health owned vehicle will be permitted to perform motor vehicle patrols.
  • Provide key assists to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas to authorized personnel.
  • Detect suspicious activities within the campus and handle the situations appropriately.
  • Report criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement, as appropriate.
  • Investigate accident scenes, search for and preserve evidence; interview witnesses; produce oral and written reports; respond to varying situations with tact and diplomacy and deal with stressful, hostile or irrational persons and recommend legal action if needed.
  • Assist medical staff with the enforcement of Baker Act and Marchman Act patients with the use of approved medical restraints as requested by physicians under Florida Statutes.
  • Work with law enforcement/correction officers dealing with patient/prisoner intake and status during the duration of their stay in the hospital. Assist the Patient Care Coordinator with securing the status of non-publicity/high risk patients.
  • Report all safety and security violations throughout the campus.
  • Respond to all inbound and outbound helicopter flights by ensuring the safety of the helipad and assist flight crew in handling and transporting patients as needed.
  • Use and understand the operation of walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
