Security Officer – FT – 3rd Shift
Orlando Health Sebastian River Hospital – a 178‑bed comprehensive medical & surgical facility serving the Florida Treasure Coast.
Position Summary: The security officer provides security services to ensure order and safety of patients, visitors and hospital personnel.
Responsibilities- Escorts for visitors, employees, and students upon request.
- Patrol all areas of the hospital internally and externally 24 hours a day in all weather conditions.
- Provides key assists to all areas of the hospital, including sensitive areas to authorized personnel.
- Detects suspicious activities and handles situations appropriately.
- Reports criminal activity to supervisor and law enforcement as required.
- Investigates accident scenes, searches and preserves evidence; interviews witnesses; makes oral and written reports.
- Assists medical staff with enforcement of the Baker Act and Marchman Act and use of approved medical restraints.
- Coordinates with law enforcement/correction officers during patient/prisoner intake and status.
- Reports all safety and security violations.
- Responds to inbound and outbound helicopter flights, ensuring helipad safety.
- Uses walk‑through and handheld metal detectors.
- Maintains punctual attendance; complies with ADA, FMLA and other standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Responds to threats, violent situations, hostage situations, abductions, elopements, emergencies, fire alarms, severe weather, bomb threats, hazardous material spills.
- Documents incidents through event reports and photographic slips.
- Enforces injunctions established by the state of Florida.
- Responds to disturbance calls (domestic disputes, disorderly conduct).
- Assists department managers by escorting terminated employees.
- Officers may be required to testify or be subpoenaed by courts.
- High school graduate or equivalent; basic knowledge of Microsoft Word for report writing.
- Valid Florida driver’s license; insurable under Orlando Health insurance carrier’s requirements.
- State of Florida Class "D" Security Officer License within 120 days of hire; renew biannually.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) Certification within 120 days of hire; renew annually.
- Basic Security Officer Certification or higher through the International Association of Hospital Security and Safety within 120 days of hire; maintain at all times.
- None required.
- Scheduling flexibility; available for all shift times.
- Ability to support hurricane response teams.
- Comfortable transporting deceased patients.
- Strong customer service skills.
