Position: Research Specialist I

The Research Office supports faculty, staff and students through the Research Project Lifecycle. The lifecycle includes Pre-Award, Post-Award, and Project closeout. Throughout each of these phases, research integrity and compliance are integral components.

The Opportunity

The Research Specialist I provides specialized technical and scientific support for clinical research projects. This position serves as a clinical research regulatory coordinator, providing administrative support for clinical research and clinical trials conducted within the College of Medicine. The Research Specialist I also functions as a study coordinator, supporting the day-to-day coordination and execution of clinical research projects.

Responsibilities
  • Preparing initial and ongoing UCF IRB, central IRB, FDA applications, and Clinical Trials.gov applications for new COM clinical research projects.
  • Completing other internal regulatory applications, preparing regulatory reports, and performing the regulatory reporting requirements of COM clinical research.
  • Interacting with COM faculty and staff regarding regulatory requirements.
  • Maintaining up-to-date and correct information in the electronic regulatory system (eRegBinder). Data entry of de-identified information into electronic case report forms.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders to address issues and communicate progress. Coordinate with Sponsors, Monitors, and Auditors to support site qualification, initiation, and monitoring visits.
  • Providing study coordination as needed; including informed consent sessions, study data collection, communicating with study participants, scheduling study visits, and data entry into the electronic medical records.
  • Working with UCF COM marketing to produce research flyers and keep the clinical research webpages updated. This involves marketing the research study, consenting and enrolling research participants, collecting research data and biospecimens, data entry, and research visit scheduling.
  • Other activities as assigned by the Clinical Research Manager or the study principal investigator including maintenance of training and required certifications; attending meetings as assigned; and other assigned administrative duties. Timely completion of required university and college training and updates.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree and 0+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous phlebotomy experience is preferred.
  • Prefer a candidate who can communicate in both English and Spanish in order to work effectively with customers and team members.
  • 1+ years of experience in a patient care setting.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scientific laboratory research techniques, developing and adhering to research methodology and protocols.

  • High degree of problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, personal motivation, curiosity, self-management, and ability to exercise independent judgment to complete tasks.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to attend to a high level of detail, especially in completion of grant applications.
  • Engages stakeholders and communicates research progress through clear written and verbal communication.
Special Instructions to the Applicants
  • The anticipated hourly range for this position is $20.29 - $24.86. The final hourly rate will be determined based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.
