Senior Aquarist

As part of the SEA LIFE Orlando Displays Team, the Senior Aquarist position requires a dedicated individual to support the Curator, the Displays Supervisor, and the rest of the Displays team of Aquarists and the Husbandry Assistant. The Senior Aquarist will lead the day-to-day work of the animal care team as they maintain and care for a variety of tropical and temperate marine, and freshwater aquatic animals, reptile and amphibian displays.

The Senior Aquarist will assist in providing direction and organization for the Displays team to achieve consistently high standards of display presentation and animal husbandry in accordance with all SEA LIFE policies, procedures and protocols. The Senior Aquarist will work with the Displays Supervisor to ensure exhibit responsibilities are being well managed and workloads are equal. They will ensure that the staff have the resources they need to provide excellent animal care.

The Senior Aquarist should be SCUBA Rescue diver certified or able to become SCUBA certified through Rescue Diver. They must be capable of delivering a high standard or work performance in the areas of exhibit standards, animal and exhibit husbandry and welfare, diving, and guest experience under the direction of the Curator and Displays Supervisor. They should be capable of maintaining the LSS systems and care for any/all displays within the attraction.

They must ensure that Merlin’s standards of health and safety are met for all tasks or areas within the attraction. The Senior Aquarist is expected to maintain high levels of professionalism and work ethic and be an example to Displays team members as well as all attraction team members The Senior Aquarist must act as a liaison between both the Curator, the Displays Supervisor, the Aquarist 1s, 2s and HA’s

This is a full-time, benefited position.

• Assist the Displays Supervisor in leading the Displays team in providing excellent daily husbandry to all the aquariums’ animals and ensuring all husbandry techniques are up to the highest standards.
• Assist Displays Supervisor and displays team in the continual development of the display areas in line with the long-term goals of the company, with a focus on creating Inspiring Displays for our guests.
• Ensure accurate daily records for aquarium systems, exhibit animals, diving, and animal health related paperwork are being maintained.
• Ensure the highest level of animal welfare is maintained.
• Help ensure the Displays staff understand Merlin Displays best practices, and have the tools they need to achieve the highest caliber exhibit possible. Suggest changes to improve exhibits, help Displays staff to create inspiring displays.
• Support the Animal Ambassador program and work with the Animal Ambassador program lead Displays staff and Education team to ensure the highest quality of programming is being delivered.
• Assist with animal transports, water quality testing, quarantine, diagnosis and treatment of fish disease.
• Ability to ensure the attraction has Inspiring Displays: can create a collection plan by following Merlin’s Institutional Collection Plan (ICP) and Displays Development Plan (DDP) format. Ensure the Displays staff have the appropriate knowledge and resources to care for new species and provide on-site training. Work with Displays team members to ensure all incoming animals' exhibit needs are met prior to arrival.
• Ensure the team is prepared for animal transports, both on-site and to a different location. This includes the appropriate tools necessary to complete the transport safely with the highest levels of animal welfare. Ensures the highest standards of animal care are being met…
