Position Summary

Department: PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Status: Variable Full-Time (Three 12‑hour shifts with rotating weekends)

Shift: Nights (7pm - 7am)

Title: RN Nurse Resident, Progressive Care Unit, PCU, Inpatient Progressive Care Unit

Must have obtained RN license.

About the PCU Unit
  • The Progressive Care Unit llips Hospital is a 48‑bed unit.
  • It provides specialized care for patients who are too stable for intensive care but require more monitoring than standard units, such as post‑surgical patients, respiratory patients (COPD, pneumonia, non‑invasive ventilation), sepsis/infections, and chronic illnesses (diabetes, kidney failure).
  • PCUs bridge the gap between ICU and standard care units through telemetry, continuous monitoring, and specialized nursing to ensure patient safety and recovery.
Responsibilities
  • Administers bedside patient care in a hospital or inpatient/observation setting under supervision of a preceptor, leader, or charge nurse.
  • Assesses patients’ needs, and develops and revises individualized plans of care based on their needs and responses.
  • Evaluates patients’ progress toward attaining expected outcomes.
  • Functions as an advocate for patients and families.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care on the unit.
  • Serves as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
  • Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and the interdisciplinary team to plan and manage patient care.
  • Coordinates patient care for a defined group and delegates tasks appropriately.
  • Documents patient care to meet all required and regulatory standards, including assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
  • Prioritizes patient care continuously in accordance with Evidence‑Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Communicates pertinent information about patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
  • Collaborates with education and nursing leadership to transition and support new team members and/or students.
  • Maintains punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training: Nursing school graduate.
  • Licensure/Certification: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Florida or holds a valid Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) multistate RN license.
  • Maintains current BLS/Health Care Provider certification; ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas, with NRP specifically required for the NICU.
  • Experience: Must have an active RN license.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department.
