The Pediatric Transfer Center & Critical Care Transport Nurse is a dual‑trained clinical expert responsible for coordinating interfacility pediatric transfers and providing high‑acuity critical care during ground and air transports. Registered Nurse – Pediatric Transfer Center & Critical Care Transport

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Pediatric Transfer Center Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all interfacility pediatric transfers and specialty consults.
  • Perform clinical triage to determine patient acuity, care needs, and appropriate transport modality/team.
  • Facilitate communication between referring providers, accepting physicians, transport teams, and internal departments.
  • Maintain continuous communication with the Pediatric Critical Care (PCC) unit to support patient flow and bed management.
  • Collect, document, and track clinical and operational data related to transfers and consults.
  • Provide real‑time updates to physicians and leadership regarding patient status, transport progress, and system capacity.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and institutional guidelines for transfer coordination.
  • Support referring facilities by offering clinical guidance within scope and connecting them to appropriate resources.
Pediatric Critical Care Transport Responsibilities
  • Provide ICU‑level nursing care to critically ill and injured pediatric patients during ground ambulance and helicopter transports.
  • Perform advanced assessments, interventions, and monitoring in collaboration with transport paramedics, respiratory therapists, and physicians.
  • Manage ventilators, vasoactive infusions, invasive lines, and other high‑acuity therapies during transport.
  • Maintain readiness of transport equipment, medications, and supplies.
  • Participate in safety briefings, flight operations protocols, and crew resource management practices.
  • Document all patient care and transport activities in accordance with program standards and regulatory requirements.
