Schedule

Either Monday - Friday, 4/10th shifts or 5/8th shifts.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates out‑patient care and acts as a liaison between the provider, the family, and the office team.
  • Performs patient assessments, provides symptom management, and delivers education to patients and their families.
  • Sets up and administers chemotherapy, fluids, and other medications via venous access, consistently following the “five rights.”
  • Practices safe administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy, infusions, injections, and transfusions.
  • Checks chemotherapy doses and monitors laboratory values for administration.
  • Manages phlebotomy blood draws.
  • Monitors side effects to chemotherapy and other medications and recognizes potential drug interactions.
  • Accesses central catheters (PORTS/PICC).
  • Acts as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide continuity of care throughout various stages of treatment and follow‑up.
  • Educates patients regarding chemotherapy, labs, procedures, symptoms, medications, and other information as needed.
  • Reviews incoming lab, imaging, and procedure results; forwards abnormal results to providers.
  • Triage patients through the use of pathways and collaboration with physicians for toxicities, symptom management, and referrals within the RN scope of practice.
  • Manages a caseload of patients receiving a variety of infusion and oral therapies on an outpatient basis.
  • Can flex between inpatient and outpatient areas to administer chemotherapy based on department and patient needs.
  • Demonstrates high‑level skills to manage a complex workload effectively and provide safe, high‑quality care.
  • Communicates through various methods and with various audiences to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Participates and engages in continuous professional development, safety behaviors, and a focus on the patient experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Ongoing need to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent verbal communication with patient care providers, patients, and visitors, including during emergency situations.
Other Related Functions
  • Knowledge of risk management concepts.
  • Aware of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Participates in formal and informal educational programming.
  • Provides ongoing training for team members including orientation and in‑services.
