Position Summary

Orlando Health Cancer Institute is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer program that serves the region’s adult oncology needs. Specializing in more than 200 types of cancer, the institute provides personalized care with advanced technologies such as radiation, proton, bone marrow transplant, and cellular therapy. Through a robust research program, the institute supports physician involvement in numerous studies and clinical trials that give patients access to innovative diagnosis, treatment, and symptom management options.

Orlando Health Cancer Institute is accredited by the Commission on Cancer and has earned additional accreditations in medical oncology, radiation oncology, cellular therapy, rectal cancer, and breast care. Responsibilities
  • Utilize unique knowledge, skills, and competencies required in ambulatory care nursing to promote wellness, restore health, address situational problems, and support end‑of‑life care.
  • Assess patients’ needs and apply current ambulatory care nursing knowledge and evidence‑based practice when developing an individualized plan of care for each patient.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned unit.
  • Apply principles of growth and development over the life span to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the necessary information to identify each patient’s requirements relative to age‑specific needs.
  • Prescribe, delegate, coordinate, and document patient care in a knowledgeable, skillful, and consistent manner, including patient assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and patient safety.
  • Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient care/unit equipment as defined by unit‐specific requisite skills.
  • Prioritize patient care in an ongoing manner in accordance with Evidence‑Based Practice Standards of Care.
  • Practice effective problem identification and resolution.
  • Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members in accordance with the patient’s needs and the team member’s role.

  • Communicate appropriate information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other health care team members.
  • Maintain a safe and caring environment for patients and family.
  • Integrate patient and family education throughout the delivery of care.
  • Participate in process improvement activities as assigned.
  • Demonstrate awareness of legal issues, patients’ rights, and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the knowledge and skills of others and the continuous improvement of the quality of health care practice and organizational outcomes.
  • Participate in and may lead unit‑level and/or organizational‑level committees of nursing practice and performance improvement.
  • Participate in department and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance.
  • Practice efficient use of supplies and maintain a clean, safe, and organized unit.
  • Provide input into staff development needs, hospital and/or nursing committees, nursing research activities, and performance management activities of co‑workers and self.
  • Assume responsibility for one’s own professional development and continuing education.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education/Training
  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meet all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.
Licensure/Certification
  • Maintain current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Florida or Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC).
  • Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas.
Experience
  • 1 year experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.
