PositionSummary
The Registered Nurse, Diabetes Educator participates in assessing, planning, coordinating, and implementing the education programs provided to patients diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus.
Responsibilities- Involved with updating and revising the Diabetes Education curriculum for patients and nursing staff.
- Actively participates in community outreach programs, including health fairs.
- Facilitates diabetes support groups.
- Serves on committees as required.
- Takes weekend call as assigned.
- Communicates patient needs to all members of the Diabetes Center Team.
- Plans, develops, and implements in‑service education for staff development.
- Collaborates with medical and nursing staff for ongoing management and education of diabetes patients.
- Adheres to Orlando Health policies, procedures, guidelines, mission, and vision statements.
- Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates knowledge of patient rights, legal issues, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
- Uses diabetes education materials, supplies, and blood glucose monitors efficiently.
- Applies safe and appropriate infection control techniques at all times.
- Provides insulin pump training and initiation.
- Participates in process improvement activities.
- Participates in Critical Success Factor activities.
- Graduate from an approved school of nursing.
- Maintains current RN license in the State of Florida.
- Certified Diabetes Educator by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators, renewed every five years, within two years of hire (or by May 31, 2020, for hires before June 6, 2019).
- Maintains current BLS/Health Care Provider Certification.
- Three years of clinical experience required, with previous teaching and staff development skills/experience.
