The Autobody Prep Technician prepares surfaces and applies primers and fillers to ensure high-quality finishes on props and fabricated components.
This role requires prior experience, working knowledge of Bondo, technical proficiency, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team-driven environment.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines for tools, materials, and work areas.
- Spray polyester, water-based, urethane, and epoxy primers with consistency and quality.
- Mix, apply, and sand autobody fillers on MDF, FRP, and metal surfaces.
- Mix, apply, and smooth Bondo onto metal surfaces.
- Mask props and surfaces to prevent overspray and maintain clean finishes.
- Confidently operate tools and equipment without the need for mentoring.
- Collaborate with team members to complete complex projects efficiently and to improve quality standards.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive work environment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

- Minimum 2 years of hands‑on scenic autobody prep experience.
- Strong knowledge of primers, fillers, sanding techniques, reshaping Bondo, and masking processes.
- Must have experience utilizing Bondo.
- Must be able to wear a respirator for prolonged periods.
- Must be clean‑shaven for proper respirator fitting.
- Ability to work independently while supporting team objectives.
- Confidence with tools, materials, and equipment required for autobody prep.
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering quality finishes.
- Based in a Shop environment.
- Ability to lift, sand, mask, and move materials as needed.
- Comfortable standing for long periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Must maintain strength, dexterity, and alertness to safely perform duties.
