Description

The Machining Department Manager will lead a team of supervisors and leads to accomplish monthly production quotas in a CNC/Manual machining environment. This department’s core activities include milling, turning, grinding, drilling, deburring, and finishing of component parts for tools designed for use in commercial, defense, and aerospace industries. The role involves setting priorities, providing consistent purpose, direction, and motivation to the team in support of overall site objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Champion daily lean management by holding standup meetings, collecting action items, and driving actions to points of friction each day.
  • Develop and drive continuous improvement initiatives while empowering supervisors to win the day.
  • Review daily shift reports for trends and improvement opportunities and assign action items accordingly.
  • Monitor demand picture with production planning to ensure crew levels and equipment support incoming sales velocity.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supply Chain, and Business Development to align product specifications and delivery timelines.
  • Maintain reports and scorecards to monitor department progress and participate in business reviews as needed.
  • Support new product introductions and prototype builds.
  • Drive timely completion of orders throughout the shop to support service level objectives.
  • Develop and track production metrics, including labor and material cost variances, to identify improvement projects.
  • Implement lean manufacturing improvements across milling, turning, grinding, deburring, and other areas.
  • Enforce quality standards and ensure compliance with ISO/AS9100 and other relevant certifications.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to resolve issues and implement preventive measures.
  • Provide quality performance feedback in line with the established performance‑management program.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure adherence to OSHA and company safety policies.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions.
  • Lead and develop supervisors and leads to grow talent within the organization.
Requirements
  • Experience: 5–7+ years proven leadership experience in manufacturing/machining; tooling, precision, or aerospace preferred.
  • Experience: Experience with CNC machining equipment.
  • Experience: Experience working in an ISO 9001/AS9100 certified manufacturing environment.
  • Experience: Experience working with ERP systems and production planning tools.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree in Engineering or Industrial Engineering from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Education: Accredited industry certifications in Lean Six Sigma or other applicable courses (preferred).
  • Skills: Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with colleagues at all levels.
  • Skills: Professional leadership approach with uncompromising commitment to integrity, action, and accountability.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of CNC machining processes.
  • Skills: Strong understanding of blueprint reading and CAD drawings.
  • Skills: Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Skills: Proven ability to lead complex projects, outline requirements, develop timelines, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Skills: Advanced problem‑solving skills.
