Job Summary

The Director, Architecture & Construction (A&C) will be a full‑time in‑region resource managing and leading project(s) through all typical stages (planning, pre‑construction, delivery, turnover, and occupancy). The role is responsible for brand compliance, quality, budget, and on‑time delivery of projects such as new resort developments, villa refurbishments, sales center deliveries, renovations, and both developer‑owned and COA‑owned capital assets of resort properties.

The Director acts as single‑point accountability for delivering a portfolio of projects on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with brand standards, while developing and managing overall project execution plans and marshaling necessary resources to achieve MVW’s business goals.

Expected Contributions – Preconstruction and Project Delivery
  • Understands business goals of key stakeholders and develops partnering relationships that enable mutual success.
  • Leads, manages, and coordinates delivery of various project types ensuring compliance with standards, procedures, and policies.
  • Single point of authority and responsibility for on‑schedule, within budget, and brand standard compliant delivery of projects; oversees multiple resort projects.
  • Assures compliance with Regional and Core SOP, MVCI Brand Standards and Design Guidelines.
  • Participates in development of project programs with MVW Senior Management, Design Studio, and functional personnel as needed.
  • Responsible for delivery of all projects under various transaction structures (turnkey, self‑developed, joint‑venture, etc.).
  • Recruits and selects qualified project management staff/resources.
  • Partners with VP of Cost Management and Project Managers to establish project budgets and control costs within budget.
  • Develops and manages integrated milestone project schedules and ensures deliverables/milestones are achieved.
  • Provides development, design, and construction liaison between Project Team, S&M, and Operations.
  • Prepares and presents reports and briefings to VP A&C, Development Management, MVW’s Executive Committee, and the COA Board of Directors.
  • Facilitates timely communication of project status, potential problems, recommended corrective actions, and opportunities for strengthening business relationships.
  • Coordinates all planning, permitting, and external regulatory activity required for project permitting and execution.
  • Develops contracting strategies (design and construction) balancing schedule, cost, and risk avoidance; oversees all contracting efforts.
  • Executes professional consultant contracts in compliance with MVW’s Approval Matrix and SOP.
  • Guides Project Managers to ensure construction contract documents are complete, coordinated, permit‑compliant, and meet brand standards.
  • Ensures compliance with building, fire code, and other entitlement officials for code‑complaint design documentation.
  • Visits project sites periodically during construction to provide leadership and approvals.
  • Collaborates with Law Department and external consultants for timely and accurate registration and contract approvals.
  • Shares best practices and lessons learned with other Project Teams.
  • Oversees Project Managers responsible for construction quality, schedule, budget, and turnover of buildings and documentation to Operations.
  • Recommends changes for project improvement efforts consistent with approved scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Manages and provides leadership to direct reports and peers in accordance with MVW associate relations standards, focusing on increasing associate engagement.
Candidate Profile – Education
  • Professional degree in a technical field (Construction Management, Engineering, or Architecture) from an accredited university.
  • Professional registration desirable but not required.
Candidate Profile – Experience
  • Minimum of 8+ years’ experience in the Design or Construction industry with documented experience in Project Planning and Design and/or Construction Management.
  • 5+ years’ experience as Owner’s Representative or in Project Management.
  • Experience leading, managing, and coordinating design, construction, and other professionals.
