Phrase, the purpose of the position is to function as crew leader master for custodial personnel engaged in highly responsible custodial tasks for an assigned school of the district. Employees in this class are responsible for monitoring, training, assigning, reviewing, planning, and coordinating the work of crew leaders who supervise custodial crews. Responsibility areas include, but are not necessarily limited to: training of crew leaders and custodians, developing daily and weekly cleaning work schedules, routine inspecting of facilities and grounds for hazardous conditions, and maintaining adequate supply inventories.
Position oversees and participates in all facets of work under charge and performs related work as directed.
- Responds to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
- Coordinates and plans work of custodial crew leaders; delegates tasks to custodial personnel under charge; monitors and inspects custodial work for compliance with assignments.
- Provides training and instruction to custodial personnel when weaknesses are observed; ensures compliance with established regulatory standards concerning safe use and application of chemical supplies (OSHA).
- Inspects grounds and facilities for hazardous conditions.
- Inspects all assigned zones for proper cleaning and sanitizing.
- Monitors materials inventory and supply levels; orders new stock according to established policies; coordinates custodial equipment service and/or repair as needed.
- Monitors and maintains custodial budget within the facility.
- Directs and assigns custodial crews in major custodial projects, such as seasonal facility preparations or floor stripping and waxing.
- Uses appropriate chemicals and cleaners safely and productively according to instructions and established State Department of Education regulation to ensure personal, student, public, and staff safety.
- Performs sanitizing tasks in various facility areas, i.e., restrooms, kitchen and food areas, cafeterias and other custodial tasks as needed.
- May perform physically demanding tasks requiring use of heavy custodial equipment, i.e., mopping, stripping, waxing, floor buffing.
- Responds to emergency situations in order to confine, resolve or prevent injurious or otherwise hazardous conditions, i.e., spills, broken windows, broken locks.
- Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and facility maintenance needs.
- Moves furniture and other equipment, as necessary.
- Performs routine maintenance on facility custodial equipment, such as changing vacuum cleaner belts and bags, and changing buffer machine pads.
- Performs non-cleaning tasks in general facility maintenance, i.e., changing light bulbs, filling paper and soap dispensers, assisting in setting up for meetings/conferences.
- Responsible for keeping up to date on current technology, as job appropriate, being used by OCPS. With the support of the district, attends commentary training to ensure skill level in various technologies is at the level required to perform in current position.
- Responsible for timely and accurate information they maintain as part of their job responsibilities.
- Performs custod Lock tasks, i.e., emptying and cleaning waste receptacles; washing windows; dusting furniture; cleaning vents, fans, walls.
High school diploma or GED; supplemented by at least five (5) years previous successful custodial work experience, with demonstrated leadership abilities; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must obtain Master Custodian certification issued from the Florida School Plant Management Association (FSPMA) within one (1) year of obtaining this position. OCPS conducts training classes sponsored by the FSPMA for this certification.
