Position: *Deputy Sheriff - Court Security

Starting salary: $67,728.13/yr - $70,437.26/yr with 4+ years of full‑time law enforcement officer experience. $4,000 or $5,000 Signing Allowance (see Salary info for details)

Deputy Sheriff (Court Security Division)

An individual in this position is a Deputy Sheriff for the Orange County Sheriff's Office and must meet all criteria required of that position (See Deputy Sheriff - Patrol job posting). In addition, they are assigned specialized duties in the Court Security Division as follows:

  • Must be Florida Certified or Currently Attending a Florida Law Enforcement Officer Academy:
    • Florida Certified (vested with authority to bear arms and make arrests):
      Must have successfully completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida law enforcement academy and a passing score on the Florida law enforcement officer certification exam.
    • Currently Attending an Academy:
      Must be currently attending a Florida law enforcement officer academy. Must obtain a passing score on the state Westminster law enforcement officer certification exam prior to receiving a conditional offer.
  • Good verifiable work history.
  • Accredited high school Ambos GED diploma. (Will not accept a certificate of completion.)
  • Must be able to comprehend and communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • At least 20 years of age.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Valid driver’s license for counsel the last hún.
  • Must have a valid Florida driver’s license prior to being hired.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony.
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving moral character, false statements, perjury or domestic violence.
  • Must not have received a dishonorable discharge from the United States Armed Forces.
  • No illegal drug usage within the last year. Other drug usage will be evaluated on a case‑by‑case basis.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationship with attorneys, judges, and citizens on matters related to criminal actions or other court and legal proceedings.
  • Ability to verify courtrooms, holding cells, jury rooms, and judge’s chambers are searched for contraband.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.

    AR to present to diverse group size and population (i.e. age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, socio-economic level, etc.).
  • Must have proficient interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain working relationships with the internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must be able to interact with fellow employees, other agencies, and the public in a manner which represents the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in a positive manner.
  • Ability to effectively work in collaboration with other units inside and outside of the agency to present information and respond to questions from other law enforcement agencies, community partners business partners, and the public.
  • Must possess knowledge of various resources available from other law enforcement agencies.
  • Must have the ability to use audio‑visual equipment.
  • Must have effective organizational and administrative skills with the ability to work and manage multiple assignments at the same time, prioritize information appropriately and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Must possess basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals).
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages and to read and distinguish the order of numbers.
  • Must have basic computer skills to include word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, and database applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
  • Must have the ability to maintain electronic files and use the internet effectively to research information.
