Position SummaryThis position is within the Consumer Protection Division and represents the Office of the Attorney General in trial, appellate, and administrative proceedings related to consumer protection statutes and other applicable laws.
Responsibilities- Participate in and oversee investigations of alleged consumer protection violations.
- Review reports from law enforcement, investigators, accountants, and financial analysts; locate and obtain documentary evidence.
- Oversee investigations of potential violations of state and federal consumer protection and trade practices law; gather and evaluate evidence and prepare cases for legal proceedings.
- Conduct litigation of consumer protection cases in state and federal courts, including preparing pleadings, motions, memoranda, briefs, subpoenas, discovery, and engaging in pretrial and trial work; attend trials, hearings, and appellate oral arguments.
- Negotiate resolutions of litigation cases or investigations and draft settlement documents such as assurances of voluntary compliance, consent judgments, and mediated resolutions.
- Represent the State of Florida in multistate investigations and litigation through the National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG).
- Conduct legal research and assist in preparing legislation proposed by the Department.
- Respond to correspondence and telephone inquiries concerning consumer protection issues.
- Represent the Department in meetings and conferences related to consumer protection investigations and litigation; establish communication with law enforcement and prosecutors.
- Perform routine administrative functions, including supervising legal secretaries, paralegals, and interns; attend staff meetings; prepare time records and case status reports; file documents.
- Assist and advise attorneys in trial, pleading, practice, and procedures.
- Maintain current expertise in areas of practice, including reading recent judicial decisions and attending continuing legal education seminars.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which may require extended hours and/or travel.
- Admission to the Florida Bar.
- Two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching, or in administrative/judicial hearings.
- Experience must be from the practice of law in a U.S. state or territory.
- Membership in good standing in another state Bar may substitute for Florida Bar admission pending timely Florida admission.
- Three or more years of experience handling civil litigation cases.
- Two or more years of experience handling prosecution or defense of fraud, deceptive trade practices, or white‑collar crime cases.

- Explain any gaps in employment.
- Provide verifiable experience, education, training, and skills that meet minimum qualifications.
