Position: Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) Enrollment

Overview

The purpose of the position is to serve as Advanced Medical Support Assistant (GS-0679-06) for the Enrollment and Eligibility Unit of the Health Administration Service (HAS) at the Orlando VA Medical Center (OVAMC). The OVAMC currently consists of a medical center, three outpatient clinics, and four community-based outpatient clinics.

Responsibilities

Determines eligibility/entitlement for benefits of all applicants using various methods including income assessments, military documents including separation papers, awards, commendations, computer hospital inquiry (HINQ), Master Patient Index (MPI), Veteran Information System (VIS) and communications with VA Regional Offices or VA Records Processing Centers.

Conducts interviews with patients who apply for medical benefits in person.

Responsible for entering demographic information, military service data, insurance, and income information into the Veteran Enrollment System (VES).

Communicates extensively with the Health Eligibility Center (HEC) in Atlanta, Georgia for the purpose of resolving conflicts relative to eligibility for healthcare.

Advises veterans of their entitlements to various medical benefits and discusses co-payment requirements.

Accurately generates patient data cards for veterans through the Veterans Health Identification Card (VHIC) System.

Monitors enrolled patient data base information on a regular basis (at a minimum, annually) to perform updates to health insurance data, income assessments for the Means Test and Pharmacy Co-pay Exemption programs as mandated by law.

Collects health insurance information from all applicants for entry into VES scans insurance company enrollment identification cards, and research employers as needed to obtain complete data when applicants do not have complete information.

8:00am-4:30pm

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time off per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year). Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.
Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement).
