Overview
Welcome to the PGY1 and PGY2 Health-Systems Pharmacy Administration and Leadership Residency Program.
A 1200+ bed acute care teaching hospital serving as a major tertiary facility for much of the Southeast, Advent Health Orlando is located in Orlando, Florida and treats over 32,000 inpatients and 125,000 outpatients annually. Advent Health Orlando is home to a variety of nationally recognized institutes and programs such as Cardiology, Critical Care, Diabetes, Emergency Medicine, General Surgery, Infectious Diseases, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Orthopedics, Neuroscience, and Solid Organ Transplant.
Advent Health is one of the largest Medicare providers in the United States. It is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in the United States and in the state of Florida, with a long-standing history of excellence in patient care and a robust portfolio of specialty services and cutting-edge clinical programs for highly complex patient populations.
This program integrates clinical practice with Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA)/Master of Business Administration (MBA) coursework and administrative rotations to develop a foundation for a career in health-system pharmacy administration and leadership. The first year aims for the resident to develop a strong clinical foundation with administrative opportunities; the second year focuses on the administrative aspects of the residency. Residents provide evidence-based patient care, lead process improvement initiatives, direct clinical programs and collaborative practice teams, facilitate medical staff committees, supervise pharmacy staff, and manage financial resources.
Concentrated and longitudinal experiences develop mastery in team leadership, medication distribution and clinical practice management, medication use policy, quality and performance improvement, hospital regulation and accreditation, medication safety, and customer satisfaction. Graduates are competitive for hospital and health-system leadership positions, and the dual MHA/MBA degree positions the resident for senior healthcare executive roles.
