Responsibilities
  • Work closely with a radiologist to perform diagnostic sonographic exams
  • Exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complimentary to quality care
  • Deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures
  • Comply with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality
  • Adhere to Orlando Health mission statements and commitment to excellence standards
  • Assess the patient’s physical condition and age‑specific needs
  • Provide instructions that achieve patient cooperation and desired results
  • Perform proper patient identification, acquire patient’s clinical history, and ensure that the information is accurately documented
  • Position patient, equipment, associated devices and manipulate technical factors to achieve high‑quality images for interpretation
  • Assess diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification, ensuring that all relative anatomy is demonstrated
  • Comprehend and comply with quality control standards and participate in all quality control tasks
  • Administer medical aid as required for any emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate standard precautions and personal protective equipment to prevent cross‑contamination of contagious diseases
  • Assist in supervision of student sonographers and training of new sonographers
  • Utilize all corporate radiology computer systems effectively and accurately
  • Ensure safety of all customers
  • Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
  • Follow established standards of practice for image processing and interpretation
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment
  • Maintain well‑stocked and organized work areas
  • May be required to work at any facility
  • Provide patient transport
Qualifications Education/Training
  • Graduate of an accredited school of sonography and meets American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) eligibility guidelines
Licensure/Certification
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) registered through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS)
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Maintain current BLS/Health Care Provider certificate
  • For Maternal Fetal Medicine sonography – must maintain ARDMS physics registry and ARDMS OBGYN registry
