The Laboratory Assistant II supports daily laboratory operations with a focus on specimen processing, patient registration, and customer service. This role plays a vital part in ensuring specimen integrity, workflow efficiency, and a positive patient experience in an outpatient lab setting.
Education & Training- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum of two (2) years of laboratory or patient care experience
- OR
- Current student pursuing a science‑related degree
, such as:- Nursing
- Medical Technology
- Pre‑Med
- Related healthcare or life‑science programs
Skills & Qualifications
- Knowledge of specimen collection, processing, and handling
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including varied shifts
- Phlebotomy skills preferred (training provided as applicable)
- Receives, processes, and prepares laboratory specimens for testing
- Registers patients and accurately enters laboratory orders into systems
- Centrifuges, labels, aliquots, and routes specimens according to protocol
- Maintains inventory of laboratory supplies and supports equipment upkeep
- Assists with pathology specimens and performs phlebotomy when competency is met
- Ensures compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
- Supports a clean, organized, and patient‑focused laboratory environment
