Orlando Regional Medical Center, an 808-bed tertiary care teaching facility, seeks a highly qualified clinical pharmacist to participate in direct patient care activities in the Emergency Department and to support the delivery and development of pharmacotherapy programs. The role is part of a team of approximately 5 FTEs providing 24/7 coverage for the ED. This position will include morning, mid, and evening shifts;
overnight coverage is handled by dedicated overnight ED pharmacists.
- Flagship hospital of Orlando Health, Florida’s most comprehensive not‑for‑profit Health System with 25 hospitals and 12 free‑standing EDs.
- Central Florida’s only Level I Trauma Center serving over 4,000 trauma patients per year.
- Home to 350+ medical residents and fellows and 10 pharmacy residents across multiple programs.
- Hospital has 115 pharmacy staff providing 24/7 service and a team of 17 PGY‑2 or equivalent Clinical Pharmacy Specialists across multiple specialties.
- Facilities include decentralized & satellite services in Critical Care, Burn/Trauma, Cardiovascular, Orthopedics, Oncology, and the Operating Room.
- Key pharmacy resources: CPOE/EPIC, Alaris Smart IV Pumps, Swiss Log Box Picker, Omnicell, Drug Information Center, Medical library, and pharmacy intranet.
- Active participation in committees such as Pharmacotherapy, Medication Use Subcommittee, Bioethics, Geriatric Quality Improvement, Antimicrobial Stewardship, Pain Management, and Heart Failure Taskforce.
- Strong orientation and ongoing education programs for new hires and staff.
- Manage medication therapy in collaboration with the healthcare team; develop, recommend, implement, monitor, and redesign drug‑therapy regimens.
- Respond to emergent situations (trauma alerts, stroke alerts, code blue 90, rapid‑sequence intubations, procedural sedation, STEMIs, mass casualty/disaster response) and provide bedside drug optimization.
- Provide drug and clinical information to other healthcare professionals.
- Support the ORMC‑affiliated free‑standing emergency department.
- Evaluate and provide recommendations on pharmacokinetic or nutrition consultations.
- Offer continuous quality improvement through creation and revision of order sets, protocols, guidelines and policies.
- Enhance an electronic medical record to optimize ED care, including contributing to reports, alerts, and clinical content.
- Collaborate on multidisciplinary and corporate committees.
- Participate in clinical translational research projects.
- Precept PGY‑1 and PGY‑2 pharmacy residents and students for rotations, research projects, seminars, MUEs, and drug monographs.
- Engage in quality management initiatives such as medication‑use evaluations, adverse‑drug‑reaction and medication‑error reporting, and guideline development.
- Doctor of Pharmacy degree combined with PGY‑1 residency.
- PGY‑2 residency experience in emergency medicine/critical care preferred or equivalent ED hospital experience.
- Florida pharmacy licensure eligibility required.
