The Pharmacy Systems Specialist is responsible for maintenance and improvement of the automated medication distribution system.
Responsibilities- Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager or Operations Coordinator, the Pharmacy Systems Specialist oversees all Automated Medication Dispensing Cabinets (ADC) formularies, file maintenance, security access, unit overrides, and discrepancies.
- Coordinates QA testing and documentation of ADC application enhancements.
- Coordinates the implementation of new ADC units and moves of current ADC units.
- Provides ADC training for all Pharmacy Department staff.
- Coordinates development and presentation of ADC in-services for Pharmacy and Nursing personnel.
- Serves as liaison between Nursing and Pharmacy regarding ADC issues and problems.
- Completes ADC advanced level training.
- Maintains Pharmacy Systems equipment and technologies as assigned.
- Completes assignments in a timely, effective and efficient manner according to departmental standards and procedures.
- Maintains reasonable regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Follows up on override report daily to determine compliance with The Joint Commission standards.
- Uses ADC data to calculate medication overrides.
- Analyzes ADC usage data to manage and optimize inventory—decreasing expired drugs, reducing restocking frequency, and minimizing stock outs.
- Analyzes data to determine which medications need to be added to standard stock for loads/unloads.
- Analyzes controlled substance usage data to reduce inventory at ADCs, avoid diversion, decrease outdates, and increase pharmacy control over controlled substances.
- Mediates controlled substance discrepancies with nurse managers and protective services, ensuring resolution per hospital, state, and federal policies.
- Reconfigures station design to decrease medication errors by nursing and/or pharmacy.
- Monitors ADC user activity to maintain database and medication security.
- Establishes an open communication process throughout the corporation that ensures patients, visitors, families, physicians, and team members feel treated specially each time they encounter Orlando Health.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be currently registered with the Florida State Board of Pharmacy, renewed every two years.
Two (2) years’ experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, including experience with pharmacy automation. Proficiency in MS Office software including Word, Excel, and Access.
