The facility is located on a beautiful 14-acre campus in Orlando, Florida, and includes 112 licensed beds.

Overview

of Position - Psych (Mental Health) Technician

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Psychiatric Technician to join our healthcare team at University Behavioral Center, located in Orlando, Florida. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of patient care practices under the direction of a Registered Nurse. The role involves monitoring patients and facilitating group activities in our units, ensuring safety, comfort, and well‑being while promoting recovery and rehabilitation.

Experience in a psychiatric facility or rehabilitation program is highly preferred.

We are currently hiring for Day and Night Shift / Full-Time.

Responsibilities
  • Work under the direct supervision of the Charge Nurse or Milieu Manager to provide clerical and patient care activities in the treatment and care of patients with psychiatric and substance abuse conditions.
  • Manage behavioral problems through patient observation and de‑escalating techniques.
  • Facilitate education and activity groups.
  • Actively participate as a member of the treatment team and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduation. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Current CPR or BLS certification.
  • At least one year of experience working in an inpatient hospital setting with patients aged 5‑65 years+.
  • Work hours:

    12‑hour shifts; day or night shift available; rotating weekend.
Skills
  • Experience with behavioral health patients is preferred.
  • Knowledge of patient care principles is beneficial.
  • Competence in taking vital signs accurately.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong critical thinking and reasoning skills.
