Salary: $17–$18 / Hour

• Maintain patient personal hygiene.
• Plan and prepare meals; assist with feeding when needed.
  
  Assist patient ambulation.
• Assist with physician‑ordered treatments under nursing supervision: change colostomy bag, use walker or wheelchair, dressing reinforcement, range‑of‑motion exercises, use of ice cap or collar, record intake and output, assist with self‑administered medications.
• Record temperature, pulse, and respiration.

• Maintain a safe and healthy environment.
• Promote patient mental alertness through activities of interest.
• Provide simple emotional and psychological support to patient, family, and caregivers.
• Report changes in patient’s condition or home situation to VITAS Nurse and interdisciplinary team.
• Teach basic personal care to primary caregiver.
• Practice infection control measures.
• Observe, report, and document patient status and care activities.
• Complete at least 12 hours of in‑service training per calendar year.
• Handle other tasks as assigned.

• May not be assigned to any institutional setting.
• May not change sterile dressings, irrigate body cavities, irrigate colostomy or wound, perform gastric lavage or gavage, catheterize a patient, administer medications, apply heat, care for a tracheotomy tube, suction a patient, or provide any personal care not assigned by VITAS nurse or included in the plan of care.

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Meet personnel qualifications for Home Health Aide per 42 C.F.R. §§ 484.4 & 484.36.
• Provide documented evidence of 75 hours of training per 42 C.F.R. § 484.36(a)(1).
• Provide documented evidence of successful completion of a competency evaluation program per 42 C.F.R. § 484.36(b).

• Ability to read, write, and carry out directions.
• Ability to travel per job requirements.
• Have a telephone available at home.

• Assist in lifting and transferring patients.
• Lift objects in excess of 20 pounds.
• Stand or walk in excess of one hour per day.
• Talk and hear.
• Close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus.
• Required to sit, stoop, kneel, and crouch.

• Reports directly to VITAS Nurse.
• Receives clinical direction from VITAS Nurse.
