Nuclear medicine technologists are direct patient caregivers. They perform dose preparation and administration functions for diagnostic and/or therapeutic purpose; perform patient procedures, process, and enhance images, and prepare images for interpreting physician to view.

• Perform diagnostic nuclear medicine, therapeutic nuclear medicine, PET scanning, cardiac stress lab functions, and radiopharmacy functions as required. If dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also perform diagnostic CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
• Exercise professional judgment in performance of services and maintain a demeanor complementary to quality care.
• Deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures.
• Adhere to Orlando Health mission statements and strategic imperatives.
• Perform all nuclear medicine dynamic, static and functional procedures required by specific studies.
• Perform SPECT and SPECT CT imaging as required by guidelines or physician order.
• Perform PET imaging on a rotational basis as outlined in written procedures or directed by interpreting physician, as required.
• Perform all computer acquisition, processing and documentation as required by procedure.
• Perform quality control on all Nuclear Medicine instrumentation as outlined by written procedure or manufacturer guidelines.
• Order and administer radiopharmaceuticals including positron emitters as required.
• Maintain records as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
• Perform all safety checks as outlined by the Florida Department of Health, Radiation Control.
• Perform venipuncture and evaluate IV access for the purpose of radiopharmaceutical and medication administration as prescribed by a licensed practitioner. If dual certified as RT(CT) or NMTCB(CT), may also administer contrast as required by guidelines or physician order.
• Prepare radiopharmaceutical doses and calculate exact patient dosages as required by law and maintain records.
• Assist in the administration of therapeutic radioactive materials with an authorized user.
• Participate in the corporate ALARA Radiation Safety Program.
• Ensure safety of all customers.
• Maintain reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
• Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies, department guidelines, and education requirements.
• Participate in Process Improvement activities.
• May be required to work at any facility.
• Provide safe patient transport.
• Handle, dispose, and decontaminate radioactive materials, while maintaining records of such under Florida Department of Health regulations. Maintain a working knowledge of procedural changes and equipment updates.
• Demonstrate professional judgment and decision‑making skills as required; solicit supervisory input as appropriate.
• Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of the patient studies.
