We are conducting a confidential search for a senior‑level Controls Engineer to support complex automation and system integration projects in industrial and manufacturing environments.
This role requires strong PLC programming from scratch, full control system design capability (hardware, software, network), and hands‑on startup/commissioning experience. The ideal candidate operates independently and can lead projects from concept through implementation.
This is a 100% onsite position in Orlando, Florida.
Position Responsibilities
- Design control systems from concept (hardware, software, and network architecture)
- Develop electrical panel layouts and perform power calculations
- Conduct hazard analysis and implement safety‑critical system design (SIL/PL knowledge preferred)
- Program PLC systems from scratch (ladder logic required; structured text preferred)
- Design and analyze short‑circuit protection, load flow, harmonics, grounding, and protective relay systems
- Develop system documentation including theory of operation, schematics, panel drawings, and test plans
- Perform processor loading analysis, scan time calculations, and network delay analysis
- Lead startup, troubleshooting, and commissioning efforts onsite
- Diagnose control system issues and implement root cause solutions
- Interface with vendors to ensure safety and contract compliance
- Guide junior engineers and technical staff as project technical lead
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or closely related field with direct controls experience)
- 8–10+ years of Controls / Automation Engineering experience
- Strong PLC programming experience from scratch (Rockwell / Allen‑Bradley and/or Siemens)
- Hands‑on startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting experience
- Solid understanding of control hardware, I/O systems, instrumentation, and field devices
- Experience with ethernet‑based distributed I/O systems
- Experience working in industrial automation or manufacturing environments
- Comfortable working onsite and collaborating in multi‑disciplinary teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in safety‑critical or regulated environments (SIL/PL, ASTM standards, attractions, etc.)
- Experience reviewing or supporting panel layout and electrical design
- Familiarity with AutoCAD for controls or panel documentation
- Programming experience beyond ladder logic (Structured Text required; C++ or VB preferred)
Employee ownership participation (ESOP)
- 100% onsite in Orlando, FL
- Travel typically around 10% (up to 30% depending on project phase)
- May require off‑shift work during commissioning
