Description
Job SummaryHands-on position guiding and directing day-to-day activities of Laser and Assembly Technicians. Subject matter expert capable of assembling, calibrating, testing, operating, and repairing complex eyesafe and non-eyesafe military grade laser systems, including rangefinders, guidance systems, and electro-optical sensors used in defense applications.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Under direction of Operations Manager, provide guidance and direction to technicians for the manufacture and repair of military grade laser systems.
- Provide training, coaching, and technical guidance to technicians.
- Ensures performance evaluations for his/her subordinates are meaningful and completed in a timely manner
- Responsible for the safety, productivity, quality, morale and overall performance of direct report staff and ensures that specified quality standards are met for all tasks completed
- Analyze and interpret complex mechanical and electrical schematics and test instructions, ensuring precise execution of assembly, and testing procedures
- Execute the assembly, testing, operation and handling of complex, precision electro-optical assemblies and lasers using precise attention to detail, and strict adherence to process, PPE and safety protocols.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and optical components, including but not limited to lasers, motors, sensors and wire harness assemblies, to ensure optimal system performance and reliability
- Investigate and resolve assembly level defects by collaborating with senior technicians and engineers, contributing to continuous product development and process improvement
- Execute environmental screening, operating thermal chambers, running test scripts, and analyzing performance data to validate system integrity
- Effectively manage multiple priorities, balancing assembly, testing, and troubleshooting tasks to meet critical project timelines and production goals
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration, work closely with Manufacturing Engineers, production teams, and management to tackle complex technical challenges and drive innovative solutions
- Ensure meticulous documentation, maintaining detailed records of assembly, maintenance, test results, troubleshooting efforts and implemented solutions
- Handle customer-owned equipment (as required), with precision and care, performing diagnostic testing, electro-mechanical repairs, and upgrades while ensuring compliance with all quality standards
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, identifying inefficiencies in assembly processes, recommending enhancements, and implementing best practices to optimize system quality and workflow efficiency.
- Follow ESD, FOD and Laser procedures
- Present recommendations and analysis to management and cross-functional teams.
- U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract requirements
- Technical Proficiency – Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings and test procedures
- Proven ability to lead and guide employees and foster a team environment.
- Possess exceptional communication (both oral and written) and listening skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and maintain confidential information.
- Excellent organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail.
- Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and possess a willingness to accept accountability for one’s own actions and his/her subordinates.
- Electro-Mechanical and Electro-Optical Technology Expertise – Experience in assembling, configuring, and testing complex electromechanical and Electro-Optical systems
- Troubleshooting & Diagnostics – Skilled in identifying, analyzing and resolving electrical, mechanical and optical issues
- Software & Firmware Handling – Ability to load, configure and verify software on integrated hardware systems
- Environmental & Performance Testing – Proficiency in operating large test equipment
- Strong Collaboration & Communication – Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with engineers, production teams and management.
