JOB DESCRIPTION

Electrical Engineer supervises an engineering group in the development of the detailed design of all electrical components and specifications of various types of vessels, marine crafts, and floating structures such as ships, barges, and tugs.

Responsible for the development of the detailed design and 3D model of marine craft’s electrical components, performing drawing review, design modifications, and in general all production or shop drawings for new shipbuilding and repair/conversions.

The Electrical Engineering Design Group Manager will provide technical guidance and commentary on the project’s electrical specifications, electrical single-line diagrams, power system studies, and schematic and wiring diagrams.

JOB DUTIES
  • Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Responsible for producing electrical system designs in a 2D and 3D software environment.
  • Interpret contract, class, and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare estimates as required.
  • Coordinates and interacts with other design disciplines, clients, vendors, and craft superintendents when necessary.
  • Prepare schedules for undertaking the assigned engineering.
  • Supervise and lead a group of designers, drafters, and engineers in the electrical group, assigning tasks per schedule, and production needs and maintaining close tracks of hours used per assigned.
  • Supervise the proper development of contract change documents to support project.
  • Apply standard design principles and theories to complete assignments.
  • Create and develop production/fabrication drawings for all electrical products.
  • Responsible for identifying dimensions, cableways, equipment, and materials in the production drawings.
  • Ensure compliance with required design safety factors, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Compile data and perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings.
  • Make required changes, additions, and/or revisions, as directed by the immediate supervisor.
  • Preparation of drawings for class approval.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Directly and/or indirectly supervise employees assigned to the Electrical Group.
  • Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
  • Ensures Accountability – Holding self and others accountable to meet commitments.
  • Collaborates – Building partnerships and working collaboratively with others to meet all objectives.
  • Optimizes Work Processes – Constantly assuring quality and process improvements.
  • Ensures that all supervised employees follow ESG Safety policies.
  • Ensures that self and supervised group follows ESG applicable policies.
  • This position will report to the Director of Engineering.
EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, (master’s degree preferred).
  • 10 years of Electrical Engineering with shipyard experience.
  • Familiarity with the use of FORAN 3D Design Software or Ship Constructor or similar 3D CAD/CAM Software.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Easy Power, and other Software related to the Electrical Engineering field.
  • Thorough knowledge of the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, governmental regulations, class rules, and flag administration regulations required.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, display attention to detail, and function as a team player.
  • Citizenship: U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Card required.
  • 5 or more years of management experience on major Government projects.
