Orange County Utilities provides water resources and solid waste recovery services to protect and enrich the lives of the citizens and guests of Orange County, Florida. The Engineering Division manages the Capital Improvement Program for water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and solid waste projects. The Division also reviews the plans and agreements of proposed infrastructure by the development community to conform to the Orange County Utilities Standards and Construction Specifications Manual.

The Engineering Division is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Senior Engineer
. This position is responsible for managing the activities of construction projects, to include planning, developing, implementing and ensuring successful completion through the efficient use of existing workforce, equipment and contractors. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the Chief Engineer.

Job Description

General Functions Performs advanced professional engineering work and provides supervision for one or more engineering functions of a specialized nature. This is advanced professional engineering work of a complex nature with extensive supervisory duties. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general supervision of the designated supervisor.

Representative Duties/Assignments

  • Supervising engineers and technicians in the Development Engineering Division, to include providing leadership, guidance, training, and delegation of work.
  • Ensuring consistency in the plan review process; developing and modifying policies and procedures as needed.
  • Providing technical assistance to engineers designing water, reclaimed water, and wastewater utility plans for all types of developments, including commercial and industrial parcels, public main extensions, subdivisions, and interior alterations.
  • Providing final review and approval for the hydraulic analysis of water, wastewater and reclaimed water master utility infrastructure plans for large, planned developments, developments of regional impact, and subdivisions.
  • Conducting meetings with developers and engineers. Performing analysis and decision-making related to site‑specific issues.
  • Writing and negotiating development agreements and performing project management for associated utility infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering and six (6) years of utilities engineering related experience. Licensed in a state of the United States as a professional engineer. Must be licensed by the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers as a Professional Engineer within one (1) year of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License.

Preferences

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent organizational skills.
  • Water and wastewater transmission systems hydraulic modeling experience.
  • County government development review project experience with a background in large scale utilities work, document management systems, Microsoft Office, ESRI and other database systems.
