GHD’s East Environmental group has an opportunity for Natural Resources Specialist / Senior Ecologist to join our team in Florida! This position is an integral part of our environmental services group and requires a diverse array of skills and abilities to provide technical management and leadership of the collection of biological data, wetland delineations, and ecological surveys. You will prepare environmental reports and permit applications for federal, state, and local government agencies.
This is a great opportunity for you to mentor junior staff conducting ecological field data collection and biological monitoring at project sites.
In this role, you will be tasked with supporting public and private contracts including working with Municipalities, Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and Florida’s Water Management, as well as existing environmental projects in Florida and surrounding states in the Southeast. This role will require a focus on safety, strong communication skills, and the ability to work across GHD’s markets while supporting projects ranging from environmental assessment, natural resource impact assessments, remediation, compliance, and/or due diligence.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Direction:
Communicate a regional strategy; explain how this relates to the broader organization’s mission and vision; motivate people to achieve local business goals. - Strategic Planning:
Develop and/or deliver elements of a strategic planning system with guidance from senior colleagues. - Operations Management:
Oversee an operational area with guidance from senior colleagues. Could involve responsibility for development or delivery (or both). - Budgeting and Costing:
Deliver a budget for an area of the organization or conduct complex analyses on budget progress in other areas of the organization. - Performance Management:
Develop and propose own performance objectives; take appropriate actions to ensure achievement of agreed objectives, using the organization’s performance management systems to improve personal performance. Or manage and report on team performance; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports or project/account team members and hold people accountable for achieving them, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of team/personal objectives. - Project Management:
Manage a portfolio of projects while reporting to senior colleagues. - Client & Customer Management (External):
Manage important client relationships with guidance from senior colleagues, or oversee relationship management with a group of more transactional clients and customers. - Research:
Manage a significant portion of the organization’s or institution’s research program. This could involve being responsible for development or delivery or both. - Data Collection and Analysis:
Use data from a wide range of sources to analyze key themes and identify possible impacts on the business. - Legal:
Design, develop, and deliver the organization’s legal service with guidance from senior colleagues.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Biology, Ecology, Zoology or other related field.
- Ten plus years of professional environmental experience (e.g., stream, wetland, and environmental surveys, sampling, permitting, etc.).
- Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification strongly preferred.
- Experience with NEPA EA/EIS.
- Familiarity with local, state and federal environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Able and willing to travel to job sites as needed for field activities.
