Recognized as thought leaders in our industry, we are motivated by creating and delivering innovative solutions to our nation and global customers.
The Structural Mechanical/Professional Engineer role utilizes expertise in Mechanical Engineering principles, REVIT/BIM model-based engineering practices, and industrial engineering methods to define, design, analyze, and integrate complex mechanical systems, ensuring they meet project objectives.
Responsibilities- Conducts requirements analysis to elicit, document, and manage the functional, performance, and non-functional requirements of mechanical systems and their integration within the overall project, ensuring compatibility with BIM standards (ISO 19650, ISO
16739-1, ISO 12006-2, ISO 23386, ISO 23387). - Develops and maintains detailed mechanical system designs and comprehensive BIM models
- Applies mechanical system modeling to visualize, analyze, simulate (e.g., performance, clash detection), and optimize integration of mechanical designs, frames, and support structures
- Identifies and assesses potential risks associated with the system design, fabrication, installation, integration, and performance, and proposes mitigation strategies
- Contributes to the integration aspects of mechanical systems, including defining and managing interfaces with structural, electrical, plumbing, process, and control systems, utilizing BIM models for coordination and data exchange
- Participates in verification and validation planning, defining the strategy and scope to ensure the integration of mechanical systems and structures meet all specified requirements, potentially using model-based checks and supporting physical test planning.
- Acts as a key liaison across disciplines (architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical), BIM managers, customers, vendors, and construction teams to resolve questions and ensure accurate interpretation and execution of the structure and BIM models

- Experienced in development of processes, procedures, and designs adhering to relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO 19650, relevant national BIM standards, ASME codes) and best practices within mechanical system design
- Ability to interpret and work with mechanical system designs, BIM execution plans, 3D BIM models (e.g., Auto Desk REVIT), fabrication drawings, interface control documents, performance requirements specifications, and technical calculations.
- Experienced in mechanical system and BIM model creation and management (preferably with REVIT)
- Experienced with performing and reporting structural analysis using FEA software and hand calculations.
- Awareness of risk management processes related to mechanical design, system integration, constructability, and operational efficiency
- Experience with naval or industrial power plants
- Experience with ship structures
- Experience with any combination of:
Building Information Models (BIM), Deltek CostPoint, Solid Works and Solid Works PDM, Jama requirements management, TipQA - Proficiency in any combination of: HVAC, Fire Alarm and Suppression Systems (FASS), piping and valves, structural decking, industrial simulation
- Advanced Auto Desk REVIT capabilities (e.g., complex family creation, parameter management, sophisticated work sharing and collaboration)
- Knowledge and/or experience with relevant quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001)
- ficiency with Navisworks for advanced clash detection, 4D/5D simulation, and model aggregation.
- Experience with mechanical analysis and simulation software that integrates with BIM models (e.g., FEA, CFD, energy modeling software).
