Overview

This position is part of the Transmission Planning team and supports transmission planning, transmission operations, and compliance with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. The role involves a broad range of long-term planning and short-term operations-horizon transmission planning activities, including power system analysis, studies, and evaluations. Responsibilities include transmission system load flow, short circuit, transient stability, system reliability, and interconnection studies to meet member requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct long-term and short-term transmission planning studies, including load flow, short circuit, and stability analyses.
  • Perform next-day operations planning assessments and seasonal studies.
  • Coordinate outages and confirm ATC for operational planning.
  • Maintain and update transmission network models, including load flow, dynamics, and short circuit models.
  • Prepare reports and interface with consultants for annual 10-year transmission planning studies for NERC compliance.
  • Support interconnection studies and joint transmission planning efforts with regional entities.
  • Prepare regulatory filings such as FERC Form-715 and annual network transmission service updates.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external subject matter experts to ensure compliance documentation and evidentiary material are accurate and up-to-date.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: 2–5 years of modeling experience with PSSE, TARA, or equivalent platforms. Experience in electric power utilities, including transmission planning and regulatory compliance.

    Skills:

    Working knowledge of power and electric transmission industry practices and NERC Reliability Standards.
  • Ability to perform engineering statistical calculations and interpret technical data.
