Aerojet‑Rocketdyne Coleman Aerospace, an L3

Harris Technologies Company, has an immediate opening for a Specialist Aerospace Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Coleman Aerospace team in Orlando, FL. Coleman Aerospace produces complex single, two, and three‑stage air‑launched target vehicles used to support ballistic missile defense testing and is the Aerojet Rocketdyne segment Center of Excellence for Undersea Propulsion manufacturing.

We are seeking a self‑motivated individual with proficient mechanical design skills to manage large, complex projects of substantial importance to the organization. The ideal candidate will be an individual contributor who works under general supervision and can provide guidance and coaching to other mechanical engineering team members. Our small team and fast‑paced atmosphere demand the ability to devise simple solutions to complex engineering problems, both independently and by soliciting input from technical subject matter experts across the organization.

This position may require occasional overtime and travel to meet critical schedule milestones.

Essential Functions
  • Researches, plans, designs, models, and provides guidance to other engineers for mechanical and electromechanical products and systems.
  • Researches and analyzes data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine the feasibility of design or application.
  • Analyzes, designs, and tests products or systems such as instruments, controls and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, or heat transfer systems.
  • Plans the fabrication of test control apparatus and equipment, and the development of methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  • Travel may be required but typically less than 10%.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior relevant Mechanical Engineering Design experience;
    Graduate Degree and a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience;
    In lieu of a degree, minimum of 8 years of prior related experience.
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Proficient in creating and guiding the development of aerospace structure designs including structure assemblies, component installations, and bracket designs that conform to requirements documents and assist in requirements verification of those designs.
  • Experienced with basic material selection, sheet metal design practices, basic machining practices and aerospace hardware selection.
  • Proficient with ASME Y14.5‑1994 and generating detailed documentation of parts, assemblies and installations.
  • Experienced with Part List preparation.
  • Experienced with engineering change document preparation and impact assessments.
  • Detail‑oriented and able to perform Peer Reviews of fellow engineers' designs and drawings.
  • Ability to manage own time within the program plan requirements.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PTC's Creo 8.0 or later revision, especially with detail part design, large assembly management and drawing documentation.
