Electrical Engineering Specialist; Substation

Overview

Electrical Engineering Specialist (Substation) role within IND. The position involves designing electrical master system plans, power systems, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and related electrical systems; executing electrical design assignments; and contributing to technical studies and client proposals.

• Create moderate to highly complex designs of electrical systems including power systems, protection, generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other electrical systems.
• Execute electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequences and presentations, sizing components, and refining rough sketches; incorporate changes and redlines on ongoing projects.
• Contribute to power system studies and electrical calculations, lighting simulations and layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and similar calculations.
• Perform site reviews to ensure designs align with location specifications; update design requirements as necessary.
• Develop white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and studies to contribute to the firm s knowledge base (TKM).
• Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client RFPs; review proposals for adherence to regulations and best practices.
• Engage with current and prospective clients to review design needs; attend conferences and events to increase visibility of the firm s products and services in collaboration with sales staff.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor junior staff for growth within the discipline and the firm.

• Bachelor s degree
• 7 years of related experience
• Equivalent additional directly related experience considered in lieu of a degree
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency varies with duties and project demands

• Experience leading substation engineering projects through 345kV
• Proficiency in protective relay schemes and relay schematics/wiring diagrams
• Expertise in specifying and selecting electrical equipment, including SCADA/RTU hardware
• Familiarity with NESC and NEC standards
• Knowledge of substation grounding grid design and lightning protection systems
