Senior Substation Design Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Substation Design Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in Orlando, FL. Your Impact
  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra-high voltage utility substations
  • Perform detailed design of one-line diagrams, elementary and wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, conduit and cable sizing / routing, substation physical layouts, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling
  • Lead tasks for technical assignments on projects
  • Demonstrate the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, tracking and organizing many tasks of varying importance and size
  • Team Player – Responsive, reliable and collaborative
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an accredited university, preferably with a power option
  • Experience in 15 kV through 230 kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards
  • Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently
  • 5+ years of experience in utility substation design, as outlined above
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering
  • Professional Engineer License
  • Experience in 230 kV through 500 kV substation design
  • Experience in managing small project teams
  • Experience with Micro Station, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or Inventor
