Safety Coordinator
Join OUC, a leading municipal utility and the second largest in Florida, as a Safety Coordinator in the Employee Experience Division. You will help prevent workplace incidents, strengthen safe work practices, and ensure regulatory compliance across all departments.
What You Will Do:- Deliver engaging, hands‑on safety training for employees and contractors on lockout/tagout, confined space entry, CPR/AED/First Aid, trenching and excavation, cargo securement, and other critical safety practices.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, conduct hazard assessments, and perform area inspections to uncover risks and recommend corrective actions.
- Lead safety meetings, drills, and emergency response activities, acting as a liaison with incident command teams during preparedness and response efforts.
- Evaluate PPE, work practices, and training programs to ensure they meet regulatory requirements and support continuous improvement.
- Conduct field audits and facility inspections to verify compliance with safety standards and operational procedures.
- Prepare clear, actionable reports and communications, including safety alerts, inspection summaries, and management briefings.
- Partner with leadership to develop practical, cost‑effective solutions that reduce hazards and strengthen workplace safety culture.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, track recommendations, and manage records within enterprise resource management systems.
- High school diploma or GED (required). Advanced education in a related field may substitute for work experience on a 1:1 basis.
- Minimum of six (6) years in a safety role within military, public safety, utility, construction, manufacturing, or a directly related industry.
- Experience creating, supporting, or implementing safety procedures, audits, drills, and training programs.
- Working knowledge of OSHA regulations, federal and local safety codes, PPE, and industry‑standard safety practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and verbal communication, ability to analyze data and prepare clear reports, and capability to identify hazards and recommend effective solutions.

$37.30 – $46.63 per hour (estimated $77,584.00 – $96,990.40 annually).

Job PurposeSupports the Commission’s goal of preventing incidents and unsafe behavior that result in on‑the‑job injuries and/or property damage and maintaining regulatory compliance by providing safety training, administering safety and health programs, conducting accident investigations, area inspections, and crew/employee/contractor audits.
Primary Functions- Collaborate with department leadership to develop and facilitate safety training using visual tools.
- Write and present reports such as incident reports, research findings, special hazards reports, safety notifications, and email notifications.
- Engage in emergency response trainings, policies, procedures, drills and serve as liaison to incident command units.
- Assist in planning, developing and revising procedures, evaluating PPE, critiquing drill responses, and organizing training exercises and drills.
- Schedule and conduct safety meetings for departments, creating debriefing reports post‑meetings.
- Conduct unannounced/announced field audits and annual facility inspections.
