Valencia College – Stagecraft Aide (Laboratory Aide II)
Valencia College is seeking a dedicated and mission‑driven, part‑time Stagecraft Aide (Laboratory Aide II) to join the Film & Theatre Production team on our East campus. In this capacity, you will assist with set construction in a scene shop environment as a support professional, working behind the scenes to build, install, and operate the technical elements of live performances, such as theatrical plays, concerts, and events.
You will work under the direction of a supervisor to ensure that lighting, sound, and scenery are ready for rehearsals and shows. Ideally, you should be familiar with basic stagecraft and capable of operating a Genie Lift. It is also preferred that you have basic knowledge of lighting and audio installation, console programming, and show tech, as well as the ability to discuss tool safety and proper usage with students.
About Valencia’s Film & Theatre Production department:
This program is designed to produce skilled designers and technicians for live entertainment and theatrical events. Students will specialize in Production Design or Live Show Production. The curriculum will prepare students to function independently or as part of a production team in the preparation and production of live shows for concerts, theatre, theme parks, and corporate events.

Salary: $16.25 per hour (up to 25 hours per week, occasional evening and weekends for rehearsals and performances)
- Assists in installation, security, and maintenance of software, documentation, computers, network, and facilities.
- Assists students in utilizing software and hardware.
- Types, edits, and prepares occasional correspondence, documents, and reports.
- Answers telephone and takes messages for department staff.
- Maintains appearance and cleanliness of lab area, ensuring needed supplies are available.
- Interacts with faculty and staff to support the learning environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Experience with computers.
- Ability to work well and communicate effectively with people.
- Ability to demonstrate discipline‑specific technical knowledge.
- Knowledge of multi‑platform systems.
- Prefer basic stagecraft skills and ability to operate a Genie Lift.
- Preferred: knowledge of lighting and audio installation, console programming, show tech, and tool safety.
This job primarily operates in a professional office environment. The employee will routinely operate standard office equipment including computers, keyboards, mouse, phones, photocopiers, printers, scanners, filing cabinets and fax machines. While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is typically quiet to moderate. Typical physical competencies include staying stationary, moving, reaching, positioning, ascending/descending, lifting/moving objects weighing 5‑15 pounds and communicating and discerning information.
Cognitive abilities include using discretion, judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, maintaining confidentiality, comprehension, problem solving, and decision‑making.
