This is a position based out of Orlando, FL supporting our Summer Food Service Program for Children across five counties in the Central Florida area. This is a temporary seasonal position.

About Second Harvest

Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a member of Feeding America – the largest charitable domestic hunger-relief organization in the United States. SHFBCF secures and distributes food and grocery products to more than 870 nonprofit feeding partners throughout Central Florida. Last year, with the help of food and financial donors, volunteers and a caring, committed community, the food bank distributed enough food for 82 million meals to partner programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, women’s shelters, senior centers, day care centers and Kids Cafes.

Job Summary

Under supervision from the Program Manager (PM), this position is responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with USDA and DACS regulations at the designated summer feeding site locations. The Site Monitor is responsible for insuring the proper service of all children at the designated feeding site locations. This means performing a variety of important on-site and off-site duties related to the efficient and compliant operation of the state-regulated Summer Food Program for Children.

It also includes ensuring and overseeing proper food distribution, scheduling, meal counts, temperatures, and document integrity for Summer Food Program sites. Supports, visits, oversees, and ensures site compliance with Summer Food Program rules and regulations.

Department Overview

Second Harvest’s Plates of Plenty program supports the community throughout the year by providing daily meals to children throughout various Central Florida communities that are in need. We do this via Kids Cafe during the school year and by collaborating with local community partners, recreation facilities and other non-profits during summer. We have traditionally supported approximately 100 summer food sites in five counties as well as 27 Kids Cafes during the school year in four counties

Work Hours

7:00AM
-3:00PM. Monday through Friday, some flexibility required.

Ability to travel to various Central Florida locations in five of our seven-county service area counties comprised of Orange, Lake, Osceola, Brevard, and Seminole counties.

Prior to this position starting, there will be two mandatory (paid) orientations/trainings on these dates:

  • Virtual training for General Orientation and Overview:
    Select one of the following dates:
    March 26th or April 19th. This virtual training will begin at 4:30 PM and end around 7:00 P.M.
  • In Person training on Saturday, April 18th for a Half Day at 411 Mercy Drive, Orlando, FL 32805.
  • Virtual meetings require access to a device equipped with both a camera and microphone.

    The camera must be on during orientation.

    Job Responsibilities
    • Travel to and oversee meal distribution and documentation at a site located in the Central Florida area
    • Be available reliably, promptly, on time, and throughout the entire summer season, for a full day’s work
    • Strictly adhere to scheduled feeding times and program rules
    • Be responsible for all meal distribution, menu integrity, counts, and documentation at the assigned location
    • Remain at site until all meal services and documentation have been completed and reported
    • Arrive at the site one hour before meal service
    • Quickly and effectively communicate any deviation from program schedule at sites
    • Be ready to implement contingency plans in the event of unforeseen situations
    • Be able to carry in vehicle, program posters, materials, and shelf-stable meals for emergencies
    • Promptly notify SHFB of discrepancies in feeding times, site conditions, meal temperatures, and deliveries
    • Lend support to and train site staff when required
