Program Specialist – Advanced Studies

To provide support to OCPS Advanced Studies programs through coaching, program management, collaboration, professional development, and vertical alignment.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution required. Master’s degree preferred. Education Leadership preferred.
- Valid Florida teaching certificate or have applied to obtain a Florida teaching certificate.
- One (1) year of coaching or teacher leader experience to include leading professional learning and using coaching competencies.
- Three (3) years of teaching required; advanced studies courses preferred.
Knowledge of teaching and learning processes, program area of responsibility, organization and management theory and practice, decentralized decision-making, and Advanced Studies coursework. Ability to work and communicate effectively, facilitate group processes, and focus resources toward district goals. Experience with the OCPS framework of coaching support and training such as Modeling, Co-Teaching, Co-Facilitating, Asking Question and Providing Feedback.

Physical RequirementsLight work:
Exerting up to 20 pounds occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently. Positions requiring arm or leg control that exceed sedentary work and prolonged sitting are rated Light Work.

Performance Responsibilities- Manifest a professional code of ethics and values.
- Respond to internal and external customers in a timely, accurate, courteous, and empathetic manner representing OCPS in a positive light.
- Model the routine, intentional and effective use of technology in daily work, including communications, organization, and management tasks.
- Develop and provide support to schools, both centrally and site based.
- Provide support and expertise as requested by schools and learning communities for Advanced Studies teachers.
- Keep the Director, Advanced Studies informed of current critical issues and incidents.
- Coordinate activities associated with district wide consistency within assigned disciplines.
- Provide district leadership regarding current trends, best practices and promising innovations in educational programs and processes.
- Assist instructors to increase the effectiveness of Advanced Studies Programs.
- Model appropriate strategies for building capacity with school and district-based staff in consulting, collaboration, and coaching.
- Conduct ongoing district-wide professional development in the area of content expertise listed.
- Conduct requested school-based professional development in the area of content expertise listed.
- Train school-based staff on district-approved enterprise systems and materials that impact student learning.
- Follow district policies and procedures related to HRMD guidelines, instructional initiatives, and fixed assets.
- Develop leadership in subordinates.
- Keep current on technology used by OCPS; attend training to maintain required skill level.
- Maintain timely and accurate information and ensure quality of data for those supervised.
- Engage in self-development and stay updated on current research, trends, and best practices relevant to the area of responsibility.
Non-bargaining unit compensation plan, twelve months, 8.0 hours per day.
EvaluationPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
