Position: Pediatric Neurosurgery Opportunity in World-Class Southern City

A children's hospital in a subtropical Southern city is looking for an exceptional and dynamic, fellowship-trained pediatric neurosurgeon to join their program. An ideal candidate would have several years of experience as well as specific interests in brain tumors and craniofacial surgery, which will be in collaboration with a new dedicated pediatric neuro-oncologist and a plastics craniofacial surgeon, respectively. Someone with an interest in pediatric spine cases would also be a good fit.

New grads will also be considered, and mentorship is available.

The program Chief of the newly reorganized division of pediatric neurosurgery has a particular interest in epilepsy surgery. The team includes support of three PAs who provide care on both the inpatient and outpatient settings and take first call. A fourth PA is also being recruited to join the team. The hospital is not a designated trauma center.

The hospital has eight dedicated neurosurgical operating suites including a 3T intraoperative MRI and a 64-slice intraoperative CT. There is also a dedicated 8-bed epilepsy monitoring unit. Diagnostic facility includes a state-of-the-art 3T MRIs, PET, SPECT, MEG center, and Gamma Knife. There is also a Monteris LITT and InSightec ExAblate focused ultrasound.

The physician would work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team including pharmacology, psychology, pediatric neurology, pediatric radiology and pediatric epilepsy. The goal is to become a leading best practice model that is research based, data driven and led by experts. The surgical epilepsy program is the second busiest program in the nation and has been number one in volume in its state for ten straight years.

The pediatric neurology and epilepsy team is continuing to expand and provide care for patients from around the country in their Level IV program.

  • Board certification through the American Board of Neurosurgery

  • This is an employed opportunity with a large group that employs over 900 physicians in 70+ specialties.     This is a full service, tertiary children’s hospital with over 200 dedicated pediatric beds, more than 30 peds ICU beds with a dedicated peds CICU, a 102 bed NICU, 17 bed pediatric emergency department and statewide pediatric network and transport system. The comprehensive pediatric open-heart program was started in 2012 and has a strong track record of positive outcomes. There are several key destination programs including the level IV Epilepsy program, the region’s only BMT program, solid organ transplants, including kidney and liver, and 150 NICU beds.

    This network consists of 30 hospitals across the state with one children’s hospital at the center contributing to over 23,000 births and several extremely successful pediatric subspecialty programs.

    The center is conveniently located close to many gorgeous homes, downtown urban living, shopping and great schools. This city boasts world-class attractions, as well as both professional and college sports. The city also has several public and private universities and colleges. A newly built performing arts center hosts a variety of musical and theatrical performances throughout the year. The city's airport has many national and international airlines serving many US, South American, and European cities with direct flights.

    The metropolitan area has about two million residents in the surrounding three county region and is one of the fastest growing areas in the South.
