Job Description

AECOM is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Wayfinding Planner & Designer to join our multi-disciplinary Urbanism + Planning practice. This is a chance to combine your creativity, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to create signage and way finding systems that don’t just guide—they inspire. As a key member of a multidisciplinary team of planners, designers, and engineers, the Wayfinding Planner & Designer will have two primary responsibilities: developing comprehensive way finding and signage systems for projects across transportation, aviation, healthcare, education, civic, workplace, and mixed‑use environments;

and identifying opportunities to grow AECOM’s way finding practice by monitoring emerging trends and supporting business development initiatives.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with the Urbanism + Planning leadership team and the Wayfinding Studio lead to identify and monitor best practices, and to identify opportunities to expand AECOM’s way finding client base and service offerings.
  • Manage and/or conduct way finding planning, including circulation analysis, user experience mapping, and signage program development.
  • Produce detailed design intent and construction documentation, ensuring compliance with ADA standards, building codes, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Create signage typology, location plans, message schedules, and specifications to guide fabrication and installation.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, planners, and other stakeholders to integrate way finding into the overall project design.
  • Evaluate materials, fabrication techniques, and installation methods to ensure durability, accessibility, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Review and coordinate deliverables with internal teams and external consultants to maintain technical accuracy and design consistency.
  • Present concepts to clients and project teams, clearly articulating design rationale and decision-making.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, graphic design, environmental graphic design, architecture, urban design, or a related field and 6+ years of professional experience in way finding, environmental graphic design, or signage design.
  • Experience with way finding principles, human-centered design, and spatial navigation.
  • Experience using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experienced knowledge of signage materials, fabrication methods, and installation processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with ADA guidelines, building codes, and permitting requirements related to signage.
  • Experience developing way finding programs for large-scale or complex projects.
  • Experience creating inclusive and accessible environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to convey technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Experience with presenting and ability to communicate design concepts to clients and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated experience in business development and proposal writing.
  • Experience with Revit.
