Performs specialized communication and dispatching work involving the operations activities of a department. This is responsible communications and processing work. An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for receiving, processing and responding to calls from the general public regarding service, prioritizing and dispatching personnel. Work requires independent judgement and is performed under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor.
Representative Duties/Assignments- Answers multi-line telephone system.
- Process emergency and non-emergency calls using computers, telephones, radios, maps and printed resource materials to process emergency information accurately and quickly.
- Transmits and receives transmissions on a complex 800 MHz trunked radio system.
- Make decisions as to categorization of emergencies received from 9-1-1 and 3-1-1 calls.
- Record and log significant information.
- Communicates with multiple agencies and the public in a professional manner.

Minimum QualificationsGraduation from high school or equivalent and one year of experience in a multi-task environment communicating directly with the general public using a radio or telephone. Must be able to hear, comprehend and speak clearly. May be required to complete dispatcher training within six months of hire. May be required to maintain a home telephone. May be required to possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License.
May be required to understand and follow the procedures and discipline required of uniform enforcement agencies.
