The Opportunity: Tetra Tech is seeking Damage Estimators with experience accurately assessing fire, wind and flood related property damage, or insurance claims adjusting. The inspector identifies risks, documents findings, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to enhance disaster recovery capabilities and claim processing. Inspections involve assessing proof of loss documentation and using Xactimate.

Key ResponsibilitiesDamage Assessments: Proficient with Xactimate to structure proof of loss (POL) documentation to provide adequate compensation for claimants to rebuild. May have experience in insurance claims adjusting. Proficient in assessing property and fire-related and flood-related damage, including understanding the extent of damage, required repairs, required documentation, and associated costs.
Use of Technology: Proficiency in administrative software, claims management software, databases, and other tools that facilitate claim processing, documentation, and communication.
Policy Interpretation: Ability to understand and interpret complex local or federal policy language, including relevant statutes, regulations, policies, guidance, and directions.
Administrative Knowledge: Proficiency in administrative activities within an organization, including customer service, data management, records management, time management, workload balancing, data reporting and tracking, and other administrative duties.
Clear and Effective Communication: Customer service-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to explain policy and regulations to claimants and other stakeholders.
Additional activities may include:
- Assist in the development and changes to policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures.
- Work with clients to prepare all compliance reports required by the program; reports could include, but are not limited to, monthly status reports and compliance reports.
- Manage data and input data into data management systems.
- Interface with subcontractors under Tetra Tech and the client.
- Minimum of five years of combined experience in damage assessments or insurance claims adjusting, in a similar role, and a high school diploma.
- Experience using Xactimate for at least five years.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
- Strong organization skills, comfortable interacting with clients, flexible style, and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook; ability to learn new products.
- Ability to adapt to different work environments, including travel (air, train, and car) and post-disaster conditions.
- Willingness to work on-site at a client’s place of business.
- Available for short-term travel to support on-site client needs and extended deployment (e.g., 90+ days) to address client response and long-term recovery needs following emergencies and major disasters.
This position supports Tetra Tech clients in the response and recovery phase of a disaster. Travel for emergency operations may be extensive (weeks to months), with little advance notice, irregular work hours, locations other than the official duty station, and duties beyond those specified in the position description. Staff are expected to be committed for the duration of the assignment.
