Roots is seeking a Senior Accountant to play a critical role in managing and strengthening the organization’s financial operations. This position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who thrives in a mission-driven, fast-paced environment and is ready to take ownership of financial reporting, compliance, and process improvement while supporting strategic decision-making.
As a Senior Accountant
, you will work with a high level of independence under the direction of the CFO, ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and compliance with accounting standards—all while supporting the organization’s growth and stewardship of resources.
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate journal entries and reconciliations.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and organizational accounting policies.
Budgeting & Analysis
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Analyze variances and provide insights to leadership.
- Assist department leaders with financial planning and cost management.
Compliance & Audit
- Support external audits, including preparation of schedules and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Assist with grant and restricted fund reporting, as applicable.
Process Improvement & Support
- Strengthen internal controls and improve accounting processes and systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to support organizational initiatives.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- High attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and excellent communication abilities.
