Job Description
Assurance Senior will be responsible for coordinating the day‑to‑day “in‑charge” duties of planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up, including the preparation of financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP as necessary, and documenting, validating, testing and assessing various control systems. The role also serves as the client contact for basic inquiries and may be involved in reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.
Responsibilities- Control Environment
- Apply knowledge of transactional flow and key transactional cycles to complete audit work.
- Document, validate and assess the design and operating effectiveness of the client’s internal control system.
- Identify and communicate suggested improvements to client internal controls and accounting procedures.
- Supervise and review the work of audit staff.
- GAAP
- Communicate financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.
- Draft complex sets of financial statements with disclosures.
- Recognize and apply new pronouncements to client situations.
- Identify, analyze and discuss alternative accounting principles with management.
- Identify complex accounting issues and bring them to superiors.
- Coach less experienced team members.
- SEC and PCAOB
- Review SEC filings for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare required communications to the client and audit committee.
- Plan and execute Section 404 internal control audits.
- GAAS
- Formulate and communicate the audit plan.
- Apply GAAS to complex issues and consult others as appropriate.
- Employ audit skepticism and adjust testing scope.
- Utilize BDO audit manuals.
- Document deviations from BDO policy with approval.
- Methodology
- Coordinate day‑to‑day conduct of the audit plan within timetable and budget.
- Apply BDO audit approach and tools.
- Identify and propose outcomes to critical issues.
- Research
- Utilize research tools and select methodology for routine requests.
- Research complex accounting areas and document findings.
- Assist engagement manager with gathering business and system information.
- Develop draft audit engagement planning memorandum, programs and budgets.
- Collaborate on responsibilities of audit staff.
- Other duties as required.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- Provide verbal and written performance feedback.
- Supervise work assignments of audit associates.
Skills and Abilities
- Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required) or other focus area with CPA certification (required).
- Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).
- Experience
- Two (2) or more years of audit or professional services experience (required).
- Prior supervisory experience (preferred).
- License/Certification
- Eligible to sit for the CPA exams upon starting employment; actively pursuing completion (required).
- CPA (preferred).
- Software
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools.
- Language
- N/A.
- Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Solid understanding of audit planning and coordination of audit stages.
- Knowledge of internal controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to multi‑task while working independently and in a group.
- Superior analytical and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to work in a demanding, deadline‑driven environment.
