Job Description

The Assurance Senior will coordinate day‑to‑day "in‑charge" duties of planning, fieldwork and "wrap‑up". This includes preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying most areas of GAAP as necessary, and documenting, validating, testing and assessing various control systems. The role also serves as the client contact for basic questions and information, and may be involved in reviews and agreed‑upon procedure engagements.

Job Duties Control Environment
  • Apply knowledge of transaction flow and key cycles to complete audit work.
  • Document, validate and assess the design and operating effectiveness of the client’s internal control system.
  • Identify and communicate suggested improvements to internal controls and accounting procedures to reduce risk.
  • Supervise and review the work of audit staff.
GAAP
  • Communicate financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.
  • Draft complex sets of financial statements with disclosures.
  • Recognize and apply new pronouncements to client situations.
  • Identify, analyze and discuss alternative GAAP with senior leadership and clients.
  • Highlight complex accounting issues for resolution by superiors.
  • Coach less experienced team members in new areas.
SEC and PCAOB
  • Review clients’ SEC filings for accuracy and completeness; ensure all information is documented and appropriately tested.
  • Prepare required communications to the client and audit committee.
  • Plan and execute Section 404 internal control audits, evaluating deficiencies and overall control environment.
GAAS
  • Formulate and communicate the audit plan.
  • Apply GAAS to complex issues and consult others as appropriate.
  • Apply audit skepticism, adjusting testing scope as needed.
  • Use BDO audit manuals where appropriate.
  • Document deviations from BDO policy, with approval.
Methodology
  • Coordinate day‑to‑day audit plan execution, ensuring fieldwork aligns with timelines, policies, and budget.
  • Apply BDO audit approach and tools to conduct the audit.
  • Identify and propose solutions to critical issues.
Research
  • Use internal and external research tools to reach conclusions on target issues.
  • Research complex accounting areas, form independent opinions, and assess impact on audit engagement.
  • Document and organize findings for audit staff.
  • Assist the engagement manager with information gathering for audit strategy.
  • Develop draft Audit Engagement Planning Memorandum and audit programs.
  • Collaborate with the engagement manager to assign staff responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Provide verbal and written performance feedback to Audit Associates.
  • Supervise work assignments of Audit Associates within the engagement team.
Qualifications, Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required) or another focus area and CPA certification (required).
  • Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).
  • 2+ years of audit experience in public or private accounting and/or consulting (required).
  • Basic supervisory experience (preferred).
  • Eligible to sit for the CPA exams upon starting employment; actively pursuing completion (required).
  • CPA certification (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
  • Experience with assurance applications and research tools (preferred).
  • Solid understanding of audit planning and execution, internal controls, and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS, Sarbanes‑Oxley, etc.).
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, adaptable to all professional levels.
  • Ability to multi‑task independently and in a team environment.
  • Superior analytical, diagnostic, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Focus on detail and accuracy in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Solid project management skills.

California: $88,000 - $105,000

Colorado: $80,000 - $85,000

Illinois: $82,000 - $90,000

Maryland: $78,000 - $93,000

Minnesota: $76,000 - $82,000

Massachusetts: $81,500 - $90,000

New Jersey: $80,000 - $95,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $80,000 - $115,000

Ohio: $75,000 - $82,000

Washington: $82,000 - $95,000

Washington DC: $80,000 - $100,000
