Position Announcement

In this Catering leadership role, you will partner with the Catering Associate Director to support all aspects of department operations, including supervising and developing team members, coordinating client requests, and ensuring the seamless execution of special events.

This position offers the opportunity to build management experience in a fast‑paced, results‑focused environment while helping create memorable campus gatherings that reflect UVU’s commitment to excellence and community engagement.

With a consistent 28‑hour workweek—generally scheduled between 6:00 am and 3:00 pm—this role provides meaningful professional responsibility alongside predictable daytime hours. You will gain hands‑on experience in hiring, training, scheduling, and event coordination, and you will step into leadership responsibilities when needed. Summary

of Responsibilities
  • Supports the Catering Department through appropriate use of phone handling, emails, scheduling of appointments, greeting guests, answering general and specific inquiries, reporting data as needed, and maintaining accurate records, while providing excellent customer service to the internal and external clients.
  • Assigns duties and schedules for student employees and coordinates events to ensure staff arrive on time, are dressed in complete uniform, and that the event is set up and served on time. Works collaboratively with fellow employees and managers. Possesses the ability to recognize teamwork and obstacles throughout the department to resolve conflicts respectfully and in a timely manner. Demonstrates and leads with an engaging, positive attitude.

    Trains Catering Lead employees on their individual responsibilities for daily events, weekly tasks, and monthly tasks.
  • Maintains inventories of catering supplies and equipment. Responsible for inventory control and ordering of equipment, catering supplies, paper, and linen as needed. Travels to off‑site catering locations.
  • Evaluates and recommends personnel needs and advancements, as well as concerns within the department. Performs other job‑related duties as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate’s degree or any combination of education and/or experience related to the position classification summary totaling a minimum of two years.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities Knowledge
  • Knowledge and experience using the catering software Caterease.
  • Knowledge and understanding of interpersonal relationships.
  • Knowledge of health and cleanliness standards for food preparation and presentation.
  • Knowledge of catering event staffing needs.

  • Skills in employee development and performance management.
  • Skills in examining and re‑engineering operations and procedures, formulating policies, developing, and implementing new strategies and procedures.
